Puppy Mills, Dealers & Research Facilities
The USDA-APHIS Freedom of Information Act Page. Look under "Animal Welfare", "Facility Lists for 1999". For background information, every caring pet owner should read Judith Reitman's book, Stolen For Profit; in it she exposes the shocking animal trade activities that take place in the United States.
National Animal Poison Control Center The best information available for every poison imaginable. Staffed by veterinary health professionals and sponsored by the ASPCA, their 800 number is listed on the home page. They charge for their service, but they are non-profit and are an invaluable resource in an emergency. Tape their number to your refrigerator!
Plants Toxic To Animals From the University of Illinois, a database of poisonous plants with photos, names, distribution, conditions of poisoning, control, toxic principal, and clinical signs. It is obviously under construction, because several plants have only photographs and no text. There's still lots of information though.
Poisonous Plants Presented by Cornell University. It is currently under construction as well and offers similar information as the University of Illinois web site. Once completed, however, it will probably be the better organized of the two sites.

Healthypet Presented by the American Animal Hospital Association. Contains a wealth of information about caring for your pets and keeping them healthy.
Alt Vet Med Complementary and Alternative Veterinary Medicine. Holistic Veterinary Medicine—Acupuncture, Chiropractic, Herbal Medicine, Homeopathy, Nutritional Therapy & Other Alternative Modalities. A popular site that contains many articles and links to other holistic sites and resources.
The Electronic Zoo Home of the famous "Net Vet", this site is extremely popular on the WWW. Very large and extensive, with volumes of information available.
Acme Pet One of the very largest pet sites on the Web. Areas for all kinds of animals. Visit their pet chat rooms and have fun with animal lovers from around the world. This is a must see site!
Humane Society of the U.S. (HSUS) as far as we know, the largest animal welfare organization in the United States. A very nice web site that you will enjoy visiting.
ASPCA The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Another giant in the field of rescue and helping our animal friends. Their site has lots of educational material.
American Humane Association The mission of the American Humane Association, as a national network of individuals and organizations, is to prevent cruelty, abuse, neglect and exploitation of children and animals and to assure that their interests and well-being are fully, effectively, and humanely guaranteed by an aware and caring society.

Action Without Borders Look up non-profit organizations of all types here (including pet rescue). Get help with forming and running a non-profit organization. Find services offered and volunteer work needed around the country.

They can form your corporation in any state, as well as the ever-popular Delaware. Loads of information and help in making the right choices. You may save yourself a lot of time and money by using their services.
